Testing multilingual website features

As we test websites that cater to audiences around the world, we as testers are sometimes tasked with testing (with reasonable accuracy) the multilingual aspects of the website.

While the company is still interviewing candidates who speak all those languages, here is a quick and fairly reliable way to test.

E.g. Testing the webex website by Cisco.

Step 1: Open webpage. Make a note of the selected language. Also, have a document with the text content of the page in the language you're familiar with (U.S. English in this case), ready. Alternatively, you can also open the English version of the page in a different browser.

Step 2: Select the language for which the website needs to be tested. e.g. German

Step 3: Do a CTRL + A followed by CTRL + C to select the text on the page.

Step 4: Open this webpage : https://translate.google.com/

Step 5: Click in the editable text area and hit CTRL + V (Pastes the text). Click on Translate button.

Step 6: Observe

                1 – The language detected.
2 – The English translation of the text.

Step 7: Conceal your excitement.

Step 8: Build a war story around the feat and wait for the annual review to claim the top spot.
